~ Welcoming Star Act ~
The purpose of Star Act is to speak - in the eruption of new content, stories and ideas, clay has allowed itself to be a language where these thoughts quickly mould into words. The direction towards drawing and painting was a necessary place to go, when things are noisy and there is no mud to cling to. All of it is noise, and none of it is logic. But some things you can catch and, maybe, understand.
After travelling for 5 months overseas and setting back up in the home studio (in a barn) in Albany, Tamaki Makaurau the work varied between inspiration in SEA and Europe to the inevitable coming home - in the cold and wet of late July. The pieces were made with the intention of using intuitive technique and challenging the more conventional ones. Everything was made with more uncertainty - from the structure, to the glaze, to the dreamlike stories in my mind. That’s where I felt comfortable going.

ShopFor Autumn Winter 2024 Cawley found inspiration in the landscapes of the rural English countryside. Cawley wanted the main focus to be on the colours, evoking the change in seasons, where the leaves turn from green to gold and autumnal, earthy tones cover the land. The blue tones reflect the skies on those crisp, cold winter days
